In this day and age, people always looking for the latest thing. Whether funny, profound, or both, the media flocks to the one thing after another and pounds it out to the masses until there’s nothing left. What was once funny is can now barely make a person crack a smile. What was one considered profound wisdom is now met with sneers and closed ears. Nobody wants to hear it anymore. The current news becomes an instant cliche of online video gimmicks and losers in search of instant stardom, hoping their videos willed be considered “viral.” As one who spends most of his time online, the frenzy of fads makes me sick. I can’t stand see the things that pass for entertainment, clogging up web, and obscuring real talent, real entertainment, and real information.
Now, to my point, which is simple and straightforward. Stop it. Stop it! STOP IT! That’s right, stop it! Stop uploading videos of your cat or dog playing the piano. Stop posting story about how you almost kissed the guy, who almost asked you out, because you almost talked to him, that one day, he almost caught you staring at him. You are fourteen years old! NOBODY CARES! Oh, you like that? Well, keep reading! I don’t care if Paris Hilton wants to become a man, if she wants to raise a love child with Kim Kardashian, if Tiger Woods converts to Islam just for the 72 virgins, or what TMZ and Perez Hilton think about it all. I don’t care so stop telling everyone as if it’s any one else’s business anyway.
The reason I started to write this article was not the rant I have written above, but to target a particular current annoyance, namely the so-called viral “Pants on the Ground” incident. Let me start by saying, it is not funny, not now, not ever. It is simply another case of a no talent ass-clown wasting our time on television, looking for his 15 seconds. If this is what passes for humor these days, we are all in serious trouble. Enough is enough already! This goofball sang “pants on the ground” over and over again. Big deal! There is no talent in that, and no humor. So how do you think people will react to you making your own video, singing “Pants on the Ground” yourself? I hate to break it to you, but nobody wants to see or hear that. Your bad voice, singing a stupid line, of what could barely be considered a song, over and over again, coupled with your piss poor video and audio production skills, is really going to come off well with the online audience. Yeah, right.
The great thing about the Internet is that that everyone has a voice, but the bad thing about the Internet is that everyone has a voice. Some people should SHUT UP! Learn to use the Internet for good. Publish professional content, display real talent, share important news and infromation, and communicate effectively with your audience.
The Internet, just like any other form of technology, is a tool, and apparently, so are many of its users. Use it wisely.
