The Illusionist (2006)

General, Movies, Reviews

The Illusionist . . . loved it! I’m not sure if there’s anything more I can say about it. A man returns to town for the woman he left behind, but she is with another who has all the power. This film’s characters are deep and mysterious. Edward Norton, as Eisenheim the Illusionist, and Jessica Biel, as Eisenheim’s childhood sweetheart, have good chemistry. Rufus Sewell, as Crown Prince Leopold, has a way of showing hate in his face that is just scary. Paul Giamatti’s portrayal of Inspector Uhl greatly expressed the fine line one would have to walk in his position between the law, and the wrath of the monarchy. The settings and the visual style make me feel like I’m right there even though the film takes place in the past, and my curiosity about Eisenheim’s plans was definitely peaked. I know that I will be adding this to my DVD collection very soon. It is wonderful. See it now.
